Who We Are

The Insurance Federation of Minnesota is a non-profit state insurance trade association representing companies and other related organizations that write the majority of property/casualty insurance in Minnesota.

The IFM was founded in 1914 to help insurers deal with the Minnesota State Legislature on issues related to the state’s workers’ compensation insurance program.  Since that time, the IFM has been the leading advocate and resource for insurance in Minnesota.

The IFM, based in Bloomington, Minnesota, represents companies with many different lines of insurance including auto, business, commercial, homeowners’, reinsurance, renters’, and workers’ compensation.  We are pleased to have both stock and mutual companies within our membership.

The mission of the Insurance Federation of Minnesota is to be an effective advocate for public policies that encourage the growth and continued success of the insurance industry in a free enterprise system.

Today, the IFM continues its mission to act as an advocate for insurance companies and their policyholders at the Minnesota State Legislature and with the state’s insurance regulatory agency, the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

The IFM also sponsors the Insurance HelpLine, a free service offering non-biased answers to insurance questions. Dedicated, knowledgeable experts field questions on many types of insurance.  You can submit a question to the HelpLine online by clicking on the Insurance HelpLine link.
